Speed Traps And The Law

The following information is believed to be true at time of writing, but i can in no way be responsible for any changes errors or ommissions.....So..tough, if you try to quote me in a court of law !!!!!!!

CURRENT PENALTY - FOR EXCEEDING SPEED LIMIT :

1) up to 15MPH over the posted limit:- fine, £ 44.00 plus £ 30 costs, 3 penalty points

2) 16 to 25 MPH over the posted limit:-fine, £ 45.00 to £ 100 + £ 30 costs, 4 penalty points

3) 26-35 MPH over the posted limit:- fine £ 45.00 to £ 200 + £ 30 costs 5 or 6 penalty points

4) 36 + MPH over the posted limit:- fine £ 67.00 to £ 300 + £ 30 costs, disqualification min 1 month, maximum 12 months.

Police do have the power to issue a fixed penalty of £ 44 + 3 ppts, but NOT in regard to GATSO speed cameras. They must attend court. The above are entry points. Each case will be looked at individually, (time of day, road, weather conditions etc) Also, each offence on the same day, but at different places, can mean that you can be an "Adder" i.e. 12 points is immediate disqualification. These points stay on you record for 3 years, and can be used in those three years to tot up the points!
For a company or other vehicle owner to fail to identify a speedercaught on camera, they can be fined £ 200 plus costs and 3ppts on the company owner/secretary.
The fine is now based upon the financial circumstances of the offender, leading to payment within 12 months. If you are a visitor from outside the UK, you will be brought before a court as soon as possible. Any amount of points will be applied to your UK driving record, not to your driving licence. However you may be banned from driving any motor vehicle in the UK as well. Any fine on a foreign visitor MUST be paid straight away, and the Justices will, in most circumstances keep you in jail until the fine is paid.Apparently two consecutive pictures are required in order to prosecute offenders in the UK. This is so that the actual speed can be calculated from knowing the time delay between photos and the distance traveled between photos. Again, apparently you don't show up on the second photo if you are doing over 145mph!! Because you are out of shot by the time it is taken!! Don't know if this is true, my instances of excessing this speed have been in areas with no speed cameras !!!!
